Biography

Biography

Rebecca was born on February 1, 1969 in Aix en Provence.

She is the daughter of the writer Françoise Lefèvre and the painter Raya Sorkine.

When her parents separated, Rebecca was barely a year old.

His mother raised him alone, with his older sister Olivia.

Rebecca grew up in Paris, Rue Vielle du Temple (3rd arrondissement), Rue Leriche and Rue Lacretelle (15th arrondissement), before moving to the Essonne department in Auvers-Saint-Georges, then in 1978 to Burgundy near Dijon.

At 16, Rebecca took the entrance exam to the drama conservatory in Dijon to become an actress. She stayed there for two years and at the same time took theater classes at Parvis Saint-Jean. But Rebecca is not comfortable in this discipline, she leaves the conservatory and enters the Beaux-Arts of Beaune where she hopes to flourish in her true passion, painting. It's a disappointment, the teachers don't encourage her, she won't get her diplomas.

She decided to move towards qualifying training provided by craftsmen, and took a competitive examination for training in ornamental painting and wood sculpture in Beaune, which she obtained. She will learn traditional techniques such as tempera painting and wax painting. Then followed two years where she resumed drawing on a live model as a free candidate at the fine arts in Dijon.

In 1992 she discovered mosaic, the materials and technique seduced her, she was captivated by the colors of glass enamels, it was her favorite material. For around twenty years she created all kinds of decors working in collaboration with tile shops in Paris, architects and interior designers who presented her unique creations to their clients.

In 1999 she obtained the honorary vocation prize from the Fondation de France for her mosaic creations, which allowed her to continue her original research.

In 2005 Rebecca decided to pick up brushes again, her painting was then figurative.

In 2010 she left Burgundy to settle in Marseille.

The South will bring her new inspirations, she experiments with different pictorial universes such as cubism.

Transition to abstraction

His boundless curiosity for matter and colors, his need to go beyond his limits, and his ability to question himself will gradually guide him towards lyrical abstract expressionism.

This passage towards abstraction will fulfill all her expectations, she feels liberated.

Rebecca, who is a born colorist, will have a field day.

It was a meeting in 2020 with the man who would become his agent Arry Bennatia who would encourage him to assert himself in this direction.

Lyrical abstraction is the movement, gestures and energy of the moment thanks to which we can create.

“Energy is the engine”

Rebecca builds her canvases intuitively, her emotions are expressed directly on the canvas spontaneously by flowing the paint or projecting it. We give the term “Dripping”. These canvases are made in both vertical and horizontal positions. Rebecca creates her paintings on loose canvas in order to maintain total freedom of movement.
